I think when Japanese people hear about “mixed race people” they imagine it equals “cool” and “beautiful”, “they can speak English.” and they are loging to be a mixed race person. But I think these imagination makes mixed race people have stress in Japan. When I searched about a blog and Youtube about how difficult it must be for mixed race people, there are some coments mixed race people say ” I feel discrimination in Japan.” and “I can’t find my identity and where I belong.”
Surely, in Japan there are some advertisements and products which say you can be like mixed race person and how to put makeup on to be a foreigner. But i think these advertisements are refering to foreigners are being to only white, so it excludes other foregners such as Asian American, Black People and Hispanics. Also, I saw interviews where mixed athlete spoke Japanese, but a caption was “katakana”(it means foreign languages)
Many people think a person who doesn’t look tortally Japanese equate to someone who can’t speak Japanese, so I feel really sad about this. Japan is single ethnicity, so people think everyone is the same, but I think we are all different and are wonderful. There are different nationalities, values and lifestyles so our world can be changed.
